Today I packed!
My Mother-in-law came and helped me pack again, I just can't seem to get motivated. So while she was here, I packed the linen closet, leaving a few towels and sheets available. and not ten minutes later i was needing a pillow case out of the box i had just packed! and last week when we packed the kitchen i wasn't considering the need for pans or large serving bowls. So i had to go buy new jelly roll pans (the kind you use for texas sheet cake) on Sunday for the fruit pizza I made for my family function on Mother's day. The fruit pizza was heavenly-day-fantastic! So yeah, the OX was in the mire. and we had already left those packed boxes at the new house the day before. so they were too far away to use. Lame! My MIL packed up a lot of stuff in the boys room. She wanted to know if i wanted to sort and purge, but i thought NO! and so we just bagged and sorted the boatload of toys, that my kids don't even play with. And the highlight of the afternoon was bringing a box in and taping it and Seeing a cockroach running away from the box that he'd hitched his ride on into the house! I saw him, screamed and stepped on him quick! Good thing I had shoes on for once in my life! She left just after 6pm. thank goodness! I was pretty fried after packing. and trying to take care of the kids. She is very nice to help, and i haven't packed anything on my own, much to Lance's dismay. He took the kids to his mom's to watch the sun's game while get stuff done and here i am blogging! Maybe i'll pack my craft closet really quick. I wouldn't let my MIL touch it so I'd know where I put my stuff! Then i wanna go watch one tree hill. Lance is gonna be thrilled! Oh but i did get the paper i wanted to use to color code the move. a different color of paper taped on each box , to go to each Color coded different room. I hope it works and isn't a stupid waste of time. Leave me a comment on whether you think a system for coding the move is worthwhile or not. is there a more effective way to do it than color? I toyed with the idea of a # system but i wanted to go buy the paper. Why i don;t know! I think it had something to do with the shopping. plus it's visual. did you ever have a system? did it work? let me know!

That is a good idea with the paper code. I didn't mark any of my boxes which was not smart. You are so lucky to have someone that is motivated to help you. I didn't have any help at all. I waited til the last minute to pack everything (hence the no marking the boxes) Cause I was afraid I was gonna need something and I was going through crap. High five from me on the packing today
1st of all you crack me up with your 7 posts a day. I love it! about the moving thing. I haven't moved much but this last move was done very simply. I must relay the info because it worked so well: all the furniture was brought inside and put in the correct room. i.e. beds, dressers, tables, couch etc. Then all the boxes were left out in the garage in rows about "boob" high with an isle down each row. This way I had about 5 rows of boxes "boob" high which I could take in one at a time and sort, put away and throw the box away. I could see what every box was because of the isles and I could pick and choose what I wanted to unpack. Example. Kitchen was 1st. Well, my VT came and did my kitchen that very night while we were unloading the truck but you get the idea. Clothes were next. Linens, whatever might be needed. I had boxes in the garage for a couple of months, but my house never had boxes in it. one at a time, that's my vote. It's better for the health, stress, mess, etc.
I totally marked boxes, and it helped so much because we had the EQ come move us and you know how well that goes over...basically, if I hadn't marked the boxes I'd be out of luck!!! I love Cara's ideas, but I STILL have some boxes of junk in my garage and can't park in there. Basically you have to be disciplined (which I am not) to use her system, I think. You have to be motivated to get out the boxes. I'm more of a "wow, this box is in my way to get to the bathroom. Guess I'll unpack it so I don't pee my pants." kind of girl. You get the idea...
Hope this helped!!!
Color coding is a good system. But so is just plain old writing on the boxes with a big fat marker. I did what Cara did with putting the furniture in the correct rooms, then we put the most needed boxes in the correct rooms, then put the not so urgent stuff in the garage. Some of it still sits there almost two years later, but luckily we have a third garage....and bunko friends that like my rejects when I get around to cleaning stuff out.
I don't know about color coding, but I just took a big black sharpie and wrote: "Front room", "Master Bedroom", "HY's room"...you get the drift. Sometimes I made a list of things that were in the box...the important stuff. A lot of my stuff was labeled "Basement"...meaning, "I don't want to deal with this in the next year or two.."
