sunday sinus headache! A good day for reading!

i hate to be a whiner. but i have the raunchiest head cold. and sooooo. today i slept in until noon. and then laid in bed all day reading my book. i had no idea this Outlander book was a series, another reason we hit Bookmans was so i could get all the rest of the books but they didn't have any of them. ((sigh))

Long story here-
ok here is the whiny part. so i am gonna explain as well as i know , i can't take any standard over the counter cold remedies! i am limited to mucinex which is crap and does very little to alleviate the symptoms. of anything i have had. which ROTS! no sudafed , no Nyquil no decongestants, nothing good. because if you'd look on the back of any of that type of drug is says in small print not for -

  • Unless directed by a doctor, do not use a nasal decongestant if you are taking a prescription drug for high blood pressure or depression, or if you have heart or thyroid disease, diabetes, or prostate problems.
anyway, i didn't know this until is was too late, and i had no thyroid. it is my understanding that the active ingredients in decongestants can cause my thyroid levels to become over active. since i am suppressed and take lots of thyroid meds to make up for the fact i have no thyroid at all. plus extras to to make me hyper. so if i have any thyroid tissue anywhere at all , it won't be triggered to grow and produce thyroid hormones by my pituitary gland which produces something called the TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone.) if they ever check your thyroid levels it is generally the TSH they are checking for. and that number is what decides whether you have an underactive or overactive thyroid, and it is the number they watch to decide how much thyroid replacement someone needs. last year when i was off my thyroid meds getting ready for a thyroid scan my TSH got as high as 120 something and let me say it was HELL! they like to keep mine suppressed at or below 2.0 anyway when you have over active thyroid levels you are more likely to have heart palpations and other good stuff. increasing the risk of heart attack lplus just throwing off my thyroid levels more than they normally are.

and like, i said i had no idea this was the case until i had no thyroid and became totally Hypo (no thyroid -tons of TSH because my pituitary gland is begging for some thyroid hormones or at least sending out the signal that i need to produce some. ) I am supposed to be suppressed and have almost no TSH , but if i don't take my meds it gets higher. but i feel like being hypothyroid and not having enough thyroid hormones opens me up to catch more stuff. like colds and they last longer for me that other people. and longer than they did before i had my thyroid out. this is one of those awesome after effects of not taking my thyroid meds a few weeks ago. i take them daily now again but i am paying the price now too. this is just me maybe other people have no problem with this . and i generally only whine about it to Lance and a select other few people, that know me well enough. to know that i for one have a cold and 2 that i can't take OTC cold stuff. it is a sore subject for me. because i am one of those people that takes something to at least disguise the symptoms if i can. and make them go away if i can. i don't like to suffer if i can take a pill to fix it. where other people (like lance) won't take a pill because he believes it either prolongs the illness or doesn't help enough to warrant taking them.

i kind of think this is a stupid post but i am putting it out here anyway. whoohoo! i like Sunday reading day, i hate having a cold. the end! i am sure this is totally confusing. if it is sorry.

short story here-ie, Cliff notes condensed version-
so today I had a sick reading day! pretty great really , Lance is awesome! and took care of the kids and did all the cooking and clean up. i think i may need a sick reading day once a month! so that is why i was absent today for the blogging.

Lucky you girl! I have a sister who would serioulsy be depressed if she couldnt take Nyquil. She ALWAYS has a "cold".
I was laughing at your Discovery Channel song. It use to crack me up when it was on the radio. Good times! Feel better!

Oh I hope you feel better very soon - there is nothing worse for a mom to be sick, but not being able to take anything! Yikes, take it easy when the kids go to school tomorrow!!!
