what kind of songs does your family sing at the dinner table?

OK so Lance sings this song sometimes (at the dinner table no less). "I got a machine and took over the world , in one weekend. and nothings changed." the kids all say it. which I personally think is hilarious. well i finally looked it up. it is a Violent Femmes song. totally not my fave by them but still interesting. anyway. here is the MTV video on youtube. and the real lyrics. maybe I'll get Joy to do it for me on camera. she is hilarious. all serious . my mom even got into it at dinner one night. freaking funny. funnier than the youtube real version.
here are the actual lyrics

Artist: Violent Femmes
Album: New Times
Title: Machine

I got a machine
And i took over the world
In one weekend
I took over the world
With my machine
I did it because
I was looking for a project
And it was either
Take over the world or learn french
So i took over the world
And next weekend
I can learn french
I got a machine
And i took over the world
But nothing changed
That wouldn't be fair

Gordon gano: vocal
Brian ritchie: keyboards, theremin, short wave, upright bass, electronics

Recorded and mixed by david vartanian at dv's perversion room, milwuakee, wi

yeah i got them from this site.

and then the video.

so what kind of songs?

do you sing at the table?

my family growing up was super nerdy with the singing at the table and apparently it bugged me when i was really young (5-ish) because i would always add into the dinner prayer that no one would sing at the table. but I totally became a dinner table singer as a teenager. that was the refining fire for anyone dating someone in our family. if you couldn't hack a full out version of Oklahoma , a musical or a Disney movie song at dinner you were out! likewise if you didn't think it was super fun to sing around the player piano. and we are not a singing family just a family that likes to sing. some people have skills. i only enjoy the singing. not that i suck to hear singing (i don't think) but that i wouldn't get up and do a solo at church EVER! but As the mom , i do make up songs at dinner. my kids join in. Lance doesn't always appreciate the lyrics because they generally involve some potty talk, and Lance believes potty talk is not for at the table but somehow it always becomes a song with poop in it. what can i say? but it's a good time. we don't do it for company though just my mom maybe. but that is it.

so ?? share! i like long comments and i need to know!

Funny! I can just see you as a little five year old praying that no one will sing!! We don't sing at the dinner table. But we usually sing on the way to/from Grandma's, since it's a 30 minute drive. Or I should say Luvpilot sings, making up songs as he goes that crack the boys up. Even does some actions that must look pretty strange to the other drivers if they happen to look in our car. And Boo made up a song about chicken tacos that's pretty darn funny. Oh and toilet paper. Fun times!

and anything that comes to mind. showtunes are my personal fave. belt out hard knock life or 76 trombones or somthing from the sound of music.

big c sings EVERYTHING. he makes us nuts!!

monkey sings laurie berkner we are the dinosaurs or something from tv and made up stuff.

i love how you ask ?'s in your posts! i'm gonna take that idea from you and use it in my next posts!!! it's so fun.

1. your kids are so adorable & i checked out your halloweeny posts & they look so cute! i totally forgot to get a pic of me with my kids on halloween. i love to get the fam pic too.

2. i love your ideas for halloween candy! and that one about the ortho. buying the candy back by the lb. that's an awesome idea!
we just let our kids at it & eat it all up so it's gone in a day or 2 (they're still little, so they don't get much int he 1st place). and they like to trade with eachother...

3. songs at the dinner table. i think that's the whole purpose of eating as a fam. at the dinnertable...it's to have a fun way to interact & connect. it builds friendship & love.
we love to sing goofy songs as well, but we don't have a specific song we sing at the table...
my kids love to make up their own songs so that no one will know it and won't be able to sing along with them! it's a phase we're in right now (kinda annoying)

4. have a great day!

You guys are so funny! My dad always came home singing and loves to make up silly songs with our names in it! We love to sing but don't sound so good.
My family now loves to sing 'We will we will rock you' or I will sing a silly camp song. Our fav right now is the camp song that goes:
don't give me no pop, no pop
don't give me no juice, no juice
just give me some milk
moo moo
Yes we are dorks but have a blast!

My husband is always humming the tune to the Disney movie Robin Hood. The songs that goes, "Robin Hood and Little John running through the forest.." He gets it stuck in my head several times a week.
Lately the only music we hear at the table is Ryanna's Suzuki violin songs that are running as much as I remember to play them. We all know the songs so well that we start humming, whistling or Ryanna clicks.

that's funny! we don't really sing at the table. nathaniel will sometimes sing a song or make one up first thing in the morning. and sometimes he's loud, well anything is loud when the house is quiet and I AM sleeping!! ha ha. I love catching the kids singing in their room though when they think no one's watching. The kids have been listening to the Jungle Book cd & singing along. They're so funny! We like to all sing in the car together (and not just kid songs). It's fun in the car. Once in a while Ashley gets in a "mood" and doesn't want anyone else to sing w/ the radio except her. Of course, then the other kids definitely chime in...just to bug her! LOL :) Kids are SO MUCH FUUUUNNN!!!

Maybe when we have kids we'll sing at the dinner table. I do remember when I was little we used to sing all the time...I don't think it was at the dinner table because we never ate at the dinner table, but my Dad taught us this song about this guy who built a machine and turned all the cats and dogs into sausages. Ah memories!

Jon sings songs and changes the words so that he's singing about the kids. It makes me laugh. Right now it makes the kids laugh too but I think eventually it will make their eyes roll back so far in their heads they'll fall out of their ears.

I am CONSTANTLY getting songs stuck in my head, so I often randomly sing at the table without noticing. When I was a kid one of the few rules I remember was that we weren't to sing at the table because food could fall out of our mouths during a rip roaring chorus or something. And we are a singing family!

We usually end up doing "Beans" or "Diarrhea"...but we like oldies too. I guess we're into the classics!

I would LOVE to see Joy do that one, I bet it's hysterical!
