stingray bay clarification. and other zoo comment replies
the stingray bay exhibit is hands on. you put your hands in the water palm up like you are feeding them and they came swimming by curious and looking for food. so in order to touch them you have to hang your hands in the water. they were slimy. and smooth. the stingers were clipped off the stingrays (like fingernails they said)
the kids were counting how many times they touched one. Peyton got up to 45. and liberty had like 37 times. there are sharks in there too. bamboo sharks (i touched those) and nurse sharks i didn't get over there to see. it's a giant tank and crowded with people around it. so by the end the kids were kinda drenched. but they thought it was the coolest ever. and dried fast
there are Cownose and southern stingrays.
the exhibit will be there until the end of April when it heats up here . we'll have to go again to that before it leaves.
I didn't expound on the pictures becuase i was posting these when my sister hotmama came over to help me do a hair bow photo tutorial for that enrichment mini class. when I'm done I'll post it for you guys too.
and Lance's shirt? we call it his Barney shirt. it is Barney purple. he had matching with the kids from the GAP when Paxton was a baby7 years ago, he hates it and only wears it when he's out of other clean clothes. he'd normally wear black like the rest of us. but he was at my moms when i picked him up.
hair dos on the girls ? is never optional , sometimes they are lame(just a ponytail and bow). but they always have their hair done when we go somewhere. at home they look ratty sometimes, but i prefer clean faces and hair combed kids too but I have gotten more relaxed. i used to curl their hair everyday. but that doesn't happen any more either. and the boys? well sometimes they think they look fine without it combed and it depends on how pressed for time we are if i fight them or not.
and of course if i feel like crap, i let it slide. you can tell how good i feel by how my kids look. if i feel like A$$, they look like it. and all my standards are in the toilet. it's a survival skill i finally learned.
but thanks for thinking they were cute and matchy. i do that so if i loose one i can know what they had on. and also so everyone knows they are all with me(mine). not just bringing spares along.

I have to say hair do's are not optional here either and I get comments about that all the time (not always nice). My girls are all trained to get dressed and come get their hair done. Jacob even calls is his "hair done" much to Alan's dismay!. I love seeing others who have the same standards! LOL!
The stingrays sound very cool. We were at the beach one day near Daytona when a guy fishing caught a small stingray. The kids got to look at it up close and ooh and aah. Your zoo trip sounds like SUCH fun.
I had fun today! Thanks for having me over. I'll have to go back and read the comments now :)
BTW, I hate stingray bay. I paid to go inside, and my kids were so disgusted and scared of the stingrays that they wouldn't put their had in the water.
To show them it was ok, I reluctantly put my hand in the water. When I touch a stingray, I instictually screamed because it scared me.
Yeah, my kids wouldn't do it after I did that.
Love the photos...I wish I had girls to match like that..My boys are usually just in tshirts from the childrens place. I kind of gave up on the whole matchy thing..but thats awsome that you still do.
Bwhahaha! Barney shirt!!
HA! Barney! :) That is funny!!
And hope you know we LOVE that your kids all match and we always know they are YOURS! It's what I admire that you take the time. As Kylee gets older, she has to do her own hair and sometimes it's just a low pony. "That's what all the big girls do, Mom." UG!! Getting her hair done tonight. Let's hope it's what Mom wants too.
Loved the pics...and for the matching clothes. So cute!
Jaycie has Joy's shoes...Love them. Looks like you guys had fun...And we LOVE the sting rays...we are due for another visit after seeing yours.
Curled their hair daily???!! That is impressive. I am so lazy when it comes to my kids hair. Jack has decided to take it into his own hands - best that way really!
i am the same way about the hairdo thing, its just not an option. she is TWELVE and i still insist that she looks nice. she looooooves it! she loves the attention for the out there updos and cute styles we create. she has days when she just wants to wear a headband...BUT... the part is still there and slicked over and sprayed and the ends are curled, so its still FAB!
EVERYTIME we go anywhere se gets lots and lots of compliments on her hair.
Gosh, I miss a week and I miss a million things in your life! Sorry! The zoo looks so fun! I can't wait till it's warmer here and we can head outdoors! The stingrays would be so awesome....my boys would love it! Well, I'll attempt to catch up, I know that when I click on your blog after a week there will be no lack of things to look at! :)
I love that you have them wear all the same color! Much easier to keep an eye on!
I want to go to that exhibit!! Can I sleep on your couch so I can?
Love the Barney shirt. Jon has one too. He wears it because it actually fits. Those XXXLT shirts are few and far between...
Your girls' hair always looks so cute. Gracie would be so jealous if she ever saw pictures of them. Her hair is so whispy that a ponytail is usually all we can manage. That and I am a hair idiot...
