Photo story friday -4th of July fun at the DRIVE-IN!
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek
Happy 4th of July! WHOOHOO!
today's photo story is all about our family tradition of going to the drive-in as a FAMILY for the 4th of July.
we go early before dark, pull out the Van seats, bring camp chairs , and settle in for a fun night at the movies, and the extra added bonus? we can see all the best fireworks shows around the valley at some point during the movie.
Tempe Town lake has a fabulous display, and we get a prime shot of the aerial show since the drive-in is just across the riverbed/lake from the Town lake festivities.
we also catch a great show or two from Mesa, and from the Scottsdale Casinos.
it's a great show depending on which screen our movie is on.
Last year we were sure to take pictures of us together there since we thought it was the last year we'd celebrate our 4th there. a couple years ago we heard the drive in was closing that the owner of the land decided not to renew the lease with the drive in. we are so excited it is still going strong there (we assume the price of the land dropped and wasn't worth what it was a couple years ago, Or that the drive in changed owners) whatever the reason, we are thrilled that we get another year of fun at the movies , another 4th of July together making memories.
Hope you have a FABULOUS 4th of July!
Questions?
Have you been to the Drive in before?
what fun thing are you doing for the 4th?
the drive in? love it or hate it?
are you a FAN of fireworks?
do you have to go to an actual fireworks show?
or are you happy to catch them where you can?

Oh and best part you can bring any treats you want, bring take out with you and have dinner. or eat first and bring all the candy and soda your family likes.
and my fave part is it doesn't matter how loud or annoying your kids are .
Since they are only bugging you, not a whole theater of people.
I bring blankets and pillows , perfect for making a bed in the back or on top of the Van.
and even sweatshirts for later it does get chilly. since it's essentially a dirt field
Pj's for the kids in case we stay for the second movie, i make them quick change in the van.
and
sometimes i bring a spray bottle of water to spritz myself to cool off before it cools down.
and for the littles i take a bucket and shovel, they love to dig in the rocks. and it keeps them from wandering off.
and of course chairs, and treats, and we hit QT or sonic on the way for drinks.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE DRIVE IN!
and the fireworks are a bonus.

LOVE your photoshoppin' lettering on the movie screen! Great Idea! I assume that my pics from last year are on a undeveloped roll of film. Thank goodness I'm blogging now, no more of that!
Drive In! Heck yeah!
I'm trying to convince my husband it is the perfect place to go. He can stay in the air conditioned car if it is too hot. Even my son who is almost 16 thought it sounded fun. we'll see..
You do realize that this is going to cause a mjor run on the drive in theater, right? Will they have room for us all? Doesn't it get horribly, sickly hot? Usually we have a big family party, but they have all deserted us this year. Something to think about....
Cute picture! Love your outfit, you look so pretty!
We've done the drive-in once. Of course we parked next to weekend dad who had a billion kids and let them fun wild. Yuck.
I will catch the fireworks where ever I can. I don't really care for big crowds, I hate the thought of losing my kids or having to go to the bathroom.
tomorrow I will take it easy and we are invited to a friends house for BBQ. Have a great holiday!
That sounds perfect. Movie and fireworks in the same place! I've never been to a drive in and I don't think they have any where I live :( I'm not so big on fireworks and I think we're skipping them this year, but I'm sure when I have kids it will be more fun. I loved the family photo and template. Happy 4th!!
Thanks for the info! I've been trying to talk my husband into going all week! Maybe we'll see you there!
CUTE pic of the fam and great idea putting the FABULOUS on the screen...super cute!
looks and sounds like a really fun tradition!
We'll be there. We might be going to Walle though. I saw ironman already. Thanks for the great info.
Happy 4th!
Cute pictures.
i am thinking of doing the drive in..we should meet up. love the pictures ;)
I haven't been to the drive in since I was a young kid. That looks like so much fun. We are going to take in some fireworks. But we have a drive in about an hour from here, we may have to do that once this summer.
It doesn't get any better than THAT!! WOOT!
Great picture of your family!! I love drive ins, though only been to one before.
LOVE the pictures!! You look mighty FABULOUS for the drive-in!!!
Sounds like a FUN tradition!!!
Haven't been in YEARS!!! Can't even remember the last movie I saw at the drive-in. Maybe "Ferris Bueller" (sp?) while were on vacation in CA as a kid!! WOW that is a LONG time ago! Hmmm I'll have to check it out again! The price is definitely AWESOME!!!
We LOVE the drive in. Such a great way to see a flick or two!
Our move made the one we like so much too far away. Boooo.
LOVE LOVE the pictures (you look HAWT!). Look how cute you all are in your matching patriotic gear!!
Great PSF Julie!!
(Are you so happy I have my beloved internet back? Woo HOO!!)
What a fun tradition. I've gone a few times to the drive-in when I was younger and spent summers with my sister in SLC. We don't have a drive-in in this little town. Happy 4th!
I used to love to go the drive-in. Mom would cook burgers, wrap them in foil and we would eat them during the first show. I would make ham/cheese on englich muffins for my kids when I took them. :)
Happy Birthday!
We're gonna have to try that one year. Even though we can see fireworks from our front yard, Tempe's fireworks are awesome. I would never go brave the 40,000 people and the heat, but I could do the drive-in across the way. Do I have to dress my family as cute as yours?
Sounds like so much fun! The fireworks sounds awesome too!
Oh and I LOVE your family picture all matching for the fourth. That is fabulous!
What a great tradition! I love the outfits!
I've been, but I never get a good seat. Not my favorite thing in the world.
Love the drive-in! I love that you don't have to worry about how loud your kids are and then like you said you can bring pillows blankets and all kinds of stuff! I love seeing the big fire work shows. It's great in a small town and you don't have to worry about traffic. I can't say I'd be as ready to go to them in a big town. Cute pictures! :)
Too bad I was oot or I would have crashed that party! It looks like you had alot of fun! Good times at the drive in. I wish it wasn't so far away or we would go more!
