i'm TOTALLY "one of those Mom's"

WHoohOO! meet the teacher was a success! (with the exception that i forgot to take a single picture)

we met every one's teachers. got the packets of info, and papers to fill out. saw a few friends. and feel great about school starting.

but it was FREAKING HOT! i was DYING!

oh and i warned a friend who happens to be Peyton's teacher this year that, "well just to warn you, we may or may not be late on a regular basis this year." ;-}

and i think i scared her. she said "oh you are one of those moms?" I immediately backpedaled saying we were going to try extra hard this year. and it isn't everyone just "some people" (meaning Liberty) bring us down and make everyone late.

and she looked at the kids and said OH well you do have 4 kids to get ready. Liberty Chimed in and informed her that i have 6 kids but only 4 in school. SHE WAS SLIGHTLY HORRIFIED.

we were friends when i was single. 11 years ago. things change fast. hopefully she doesn't hate me by the end of the year. for being "one of those moms".

the kind that have tardy kids regularly,

that one that forgets field trips (when i am supposed to go along),

or the one that has a hard time enforcing homework for everyone.

or has kids that forget their backpack/jacket/lunch.

or the kind of mom that has kids that have test anxiety,

the kind of mom with kids who don't do their 15 minutes of reading daily,

the mom that forgets to get their folder signed ,

or a mom who has failed to check backpacks in more than a month/semester.

yeah i try but i am totally one of those moms. now you know.

on the flip side-

i am the mom that never practices spelling words at home, and yet they still get 100% every week.

a mom where the girls have bows in their hair 98% of the time.(sometimes we are running late)

the mom that send back to school treats for the teachers to butter them up.

the mom that never questions discipline in the classroom.

the mom that is willing to go on field trips. and come to class parties.

the mom that sends a "back to school get to know my child note" to each teacher.

the mom that warns the teacher," these two are Friends don't let them sit together or they will be trouble".

the mom that demands testing for speech, or reading assessment or extended learning programs.

the mom that makes them do their own reports the night before it's due.

and the mom that adds rhinestones and flowers to the student of the week poster.

I'm that mom too. depends on the day/week/year/kid.

You know what? I'm one of those moms, too. Though you did forget neurotic on that list...at least for me...;)

I'm ok with being who I am, do you know how much time and energy I would need to invest in order to change...not gonna happen.

Oh man. I am NOT looking forward to getting up at 5:30 every morning again. We've really gotten bad this summer.

I forgot a field trip last year too - although I doubt I really signed up, and if I really did I don't know what I was thinking. and why didn't that teacher send a note home or call and check on everyone the night before?

What mom does do all that stuff?! YOu are pretty awesome for the stuff you do get done! I am the worst at signing reading logs- I hate those. I just want to tell the teachers that my kids read everyday but I am a slacker when it comes to recording it or signing it off. Waste of time! We get to meet teachers next friday- can't wait!

I think you do a great job!! I grew up in a big family and I imagine how hard it would be to do everything for everybody.
I am not so sure I would have handled it very well if someone said to me "oh your one of those moms", I probably would have been up all night thinking of all the horrible things that that could mean.

I'm with your girl. Sometimes I don't know where the time went, but I'm always in a hurry and late.

Maybe she was excited to have a mom like you!! hee hee...

The good far outweighs the other stuff for sure! I know teachers appreciate all of that.

we are always late. the effort you put in though really shows that you care, even if a few small things get over looked ;)

You were so sweet (and maybe a little brown-nosing) to give the teachers welcome back to school gifts! LOL :)

I thought it was funny that you had beaten me to the *warning* about Ashley & Joy - great friends so can't sit together! ha ha

I was delighted when one teacher told me that they won't do book reports but research projects - done completely during classtime! YAY!!!

I always have to harp on the kids when they have projects due. They are good at them, but they want to wait til the very last minute! Not good for my stress! haha

Hope we can all get to school on time and have a great year!!!

You and I have a lot in common! I am a very similar mom. My kids won't be late but they probably don't have a signed folder. The day before a project is due, I have no idea that it even exists. My neighbor calls me to remind me of the early release days since I have forgotten...more than once.

What can you do. Some moms are totally on the ball with this stuff and others arent...like me...and you apparently. Good idea letting the teachers know right off the bat! I may have to try that.

I am totally THAT mom. Hannah went to visit her teacher from last year at parent teacher night and she was frosty to me. Then she said "Oh I see Hannah doesn't have her glasses AGAIN!" Yep, hannah broke them two weeks ago again, and yep, I won't be able to pay for them for another two weeks Bite me!

I love how you warned her.
Does the teacher have kids of her own?
I love the quote very perfect!
You are so awesome to give all the teachers treats!!

I love that you pointed out that we all have strengths and weaknesses. I have to say keeping up with two kids in school, their homework, etc... is overwhelming. Four (which will come soon) will really be a job!

You are always doing great. Bows in hair is certainly a priority to me too! Ha ha.

I think you scared me just a little bit with this post! Cam is just in 1st grade this year and I am scared by all the huge responsibilites that will come along with it....because let's face it, kindergarten was easier than preschool! Good to know what to look forward too though! :) I think I will be "one of those moms" too!!! Especially with all the chaos that is about to take place in our little home!

That quote sums it all up perfectly...we can only do our best, and you do a great job!!

I'm totally one of 'those' moms too! Who isn't in their own right? you know? whatever-darn teachers.
I can't wait for the moment when she explains something she does in class at open house or parents night and you get the chance to pipe in, "oh, you're one of those teachers!"

You rock the house their Julie-O. BTW, can you send me the link to your bow making instructions? You just reminded me that I wanted to do that next week!

ahhh early mornings...woo hoo! it's going to be rough this year, J has started the whole teenage sleeping in thing.

i am thinking the 'flipside' mom TOTALLY makes up for the other stuff. you're doing just fine girlie!

Do you remember the spinster teacher in "Anne of Green Gables?" (i can't remember her name) When I read, "Oh you're one of those moms," it was Spinster Teacher's voice saying it.

How did you manage NOT to give her the Rolling Double???

I love that you ended this post with a list of your strengths! I tend to over-obsess on my weaknesses as a result of an encounter like this. GREAT reminder to me to also look at how I kick butt!

(i still think you shoulda given her the Rolling Double.)

At least in your mind.
