more baking and a recipe.

i've been up baking. again.

another reunion post is coming momentarily. but i'm posting this while i'm thinking about it.

i baked cookies for tomorrow's fun. Molasses and Suzanne's chocolate scotchies.

The molasses is another recipe stolen from Supercool mom's recipes who actually takes time to type up the recipes out of our family cookbook. i grew up eating these cookies.SO yummy!

Brer Rabbit Molasses Sugar Cookies
here is our cast of characters-
Photobucket

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon

Soften shortening in microwave. Add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well. Sift together flour and spices, add to first mixture. Mix well. Chill. Form into 1 inch balls and roll in granulated sugar. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees for 5-7 minutes (do not overbake - the tops should barely start to crack, these aren't supposed to be hard old gingersnaps).

And one tip from me: Make all the balls at once and place on a cookie sheet. Freeze. Then pour them into a ziploc bag, toss your sugar in, and shake and bake. I keep the bag of frozen dough balls in the freezer and only use what I need. It's so nice to be able to bake a batch of warm cookies any time you have the urge.

~~
since we are having family fun, i thought i'd do another family recipe. and i was not sad. they are heavenly. i spent a couple (actually 4 hours) baking tonight.and while i rolled the dough into balls and through the sugar and baked them, i watched Grey's Anatomy from last night, AND Private Practice.yay for fall! I love the new season of TV.

if you wanna read more family posts about my family reunion fun,you can check out my sister supercool Hotmama, she recaps yesterday's post, and tells one of the morbid stories we heard yesterday.

Oh yum. You are the domestic diva today. With a family reunion and 6 kids you still have time to bake and post to your blog. I bow to you tonight (this morning).

Those molasses cookies are the BEST! I may have to make them....they'd be perfect for a snowy day...that we are having! Yippee for our 3 days of Fall that came and went, on to winter here!

The family reunion look like a blast. The flour fight looks awesome...and oh, so messy.
