great day.
saver's was a success. i got loads of stuff. for CHEAP! i am cheap. it's a fact.
i went all alone without kids. (Since i don't take kids shopping with me if i can at all avoid it)
and i even got to grocery shop alone before i came home. WHOOHOO!
so you ready for my answers on the thanksgiving food discussion from yesterday?
how do you do thanksgiving dinner?
we do it with my family at noon. at a park. no major set up or take down(just gotta cover the tables). everyone brings their part ready to serve. the kids play and run around like idiots and since we bring it all in disposable pans, i don't have to wash anything but the pans I cooked it in. the kids have so much fun they don't even eat. and one year we had a marshmallow gun fight.it was awesome. after we eat we all sit around with our ads and plot this years shopping plans. WHOOHOO!
where do you go for thanksgiving? stay home? in-laws? travel? we stay in town here,my whole family lives close. and his family does too. sometimes we spread ourselves thin on the day of. and sometimes we do his family the weekend before or after depending on his mom's work schedule.
if you bring something what do you bring?
i always bring Stuffing and Candied carrots. and we do a pie contest for the pies. so everyone is excited to bake something. and we always have more than enough
what "makes" thanksgiving dinner for you? (if it's missing it's just not the same. )
i have to have candied carrots. That's why i bring them.
what grosses you out?
in the bird stuffing. the thought grosses me out. all that meat juice grody.
oh and giblets. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? never get that near me. i will chuck for sure!
Gravy preference? brown? turkey? Homemade?
i prefer brown gravy from a packet. not lumpy.
i hate turkey or chicken gravy. it's not the right color, same with homemade gravy from the drippings eww.
Mashed Potatoes? from scratch? or instant?
mashed potatoes from scratch. no lumps ,no skins please. and no spices added. sure salt and pepper to taste, but NO Garlic. and i am not a fan of the pool of butter. i love my mom's the most. but lance has it down now too.
do you actually eat Yams?
nope. and i am not a fan of sweet potatoes either.
what about cranberries?
no thanks. i used to help make some from scratch. but i have never actually eaten them, and that gelatinous glob doesn't appeal to me either.
Pie? what is a "must have" at every Thanksgiving dessert table?
i love Pecan.and make them sometimes.
i have to have a slice of pumpkin with whipped cream. but not deep dish pumpkin. gross.
i love lemon meringue too. Lance has to have Apple every year and insists on baking some himself.
Pies? from scratch? or store bought?
scratch! but i will choke down store bought ones. and i'm totally fine with store bought other times of the year i just PREFER homemade for thanksgiving.
Whipped cream? from scratch ? cool whip? or from a can? whipped cream should always be from scratch. again i will eat whatever is there but if i got my wish there would only be homemade. it just doesn't compare.
if you didn't play along feel free. i'd love to know what your preferences and traditions are.

Fabulous day for you.
But where are the pics girl??
I wanna see the stash.
We just got home from lunch and the movies. It was packed. Can't say I'm looking forward to a packed Twilight. I hate that.
OK I played along. We gotta see your cool finds! Be sure to post some pics...
We usually stay at home and don't go to family since they are pretty far away. Now they're even further!
When we did go to family's home's usually the drive was pretty long so we wouldn't bring too much. I make a couple of pumpkin rolls or make them while I'm there... And then help buy what I can and then help prepared the food.
Gotta have mashed potatoes and turkey and pumpkin pie at the very least! Plus stuffing.
Keep the giblest away! I'm with you all the way!!!
Love gravy white or brown. NO instant taters that's just gross!
Pumpkin pie homemade of course and my mom's raspberry cream cheese pie yummy!!!
Thanksgiving is a favorite. I love it. Hate the all day cooking just for 10 minutes of eating but it's so great to have family together! :)
I'm sad I didn't make it to Savers this time. Stupid van.
Stuffing of all kinds give me the skeevies. Soggy bread. Bleccccch.
Sorry I haven't been around the last few days. My brain wasn't around either.
IT's all about being with family and friends isn't it? I know you have such a great time! I like the traditional but I wouldn't mind doing something out of the ordinary, as long as I am with the family. I don't really care! But, it is my chance to make good memories for me and them.
We do it all for Thanksgiving. We celebrate with family. If we travel to dh's side we eat on paper plates and drink from paper cups. I hate that. If we celebrate at our home we eat on plates, fine china and goblets. It's a special holiday. I dont mind. We usually have 24 to 30 people if I entertain.
All the fixings. pies are both homemade and store bought. If I make them HOMEMADE of course. Home made whip cream. It really doesn't take that long. No brown gravy. Homemade gravy and the only thing I do not like homemade is cranberry sauce! Give it to me from the can please!
I make THE BEST IN THE WORLD SWEET POTATO PIE!! WE have to have green bean casserole, corn, and after we eat our selves silly we will do something. Last year we played kick ball and had so much fun. Usually if we are out of town, the women go to a movie.
I want to see what you got at Savers....
Show us the pictures girl!!!
I agree where are the pics? Sorry I missed out, we actually slept in this morning!
Yeah for Savers!!!! We end up splitting the day between families and I never have cook!!
I thought about you out shopping at Saver's yesterday. Can't wait to see what you found!
The best time of year for us to be with family...the food is good and we all seem to enjoy each other more..think it's that gratitude thing..tehe!!
Well my friend Marie (Callendars) makes a mean pie..and she does not get offended if I say I did it!!
There was a time in my life where we did not have much. My mom grew a garden with EVERYTHING you can imagine and would can all summer long (I had to help with the prep work..sucked..now..so grateful). So during the winter months we had much to eat. Thanksgiving was so good with all the fresh foods. In your list..we had them all. I do love the funky colored gravy and the best stuffing comes from the guts (just can't think about it). Giblets nasty then and still feel the same!!! All this food talk..need to go eat!
What an awesome day of shopping:)
Thanksgiving for us is split up between our two families and I usually end up making green beans or a jello salad! So nothing to hard!
Dang iT!! I have not been in the blog "groove" for the past several days and I come back and I can't just read your most recent post...I HAVE to read ALL of them!! You're so addicting!
I wish I'd thought to go by Savers yesterday! Now I'm kicking myself! I need some new kitchen chairs and I would much prefer to pay thrift store prices than buy brand new. Who's cheap now?
I agree with the Facebook thing. I did not like HS either and when I first registered, those were my exact thoughts! It was fun though, seeing who would send me friend invites on their own. I finally did go and invite a few people. I say go ahead and invite your old boyfriends. I would! I'm always curious to see what they are up to these days and see if their kids are 1/2 as cute as mine! Heehee...ok that was maybe mean...but it's how I roll. BUT, I'm so glad you found me. I'd been thinking for several days of looking you up, and I was always away from my computer when it crossed my mind, so I hadn't gotten around to it. But you found me, so YAY!
Anyway, I'm going to do this survey on my blog, but it may be a day or 2 before I get to it. I haven't updated since (ugh) last Monday (the 3rd).
Hope you have a fabulous day!
i can't wait to hear all about your savers trip...pics, details, savings oh my!
i always love when you post about that place!
thanksgving at a park sounds FAB!
Mmm pecan pie!! I've wanted to make one but never have yet. I love to eat them though. One year when I was younger, my Dad bought a big box of those tiny pecan pies from Costco, I ate a ton!! Kind of O.D'd, so I didn't eat pecan pie for a very long time! LOL
WOOHOO Savers! I need to post my pics!
I didn't make it to Saver's yesterday. It was too busy of a day. It didn't really feel like a holiday with so much stuff crammed in. I would love to see what you got. You will have to tell all at the next family get together.
I love this idea!
I'm going to copy you.
