this year is going to be extra fun at our house.
this year Pierce is really into christmas.
he's enthralled with christmas lights.
he happily sat on Santa's lap (instead of bawling like last year)
I have a feeling this year is going to be extra fun at our house.
and I'm hoping he'll leave the tree alone. (when it is finally put up)
we had our Annual Family Christmas party with my mom on Saturday night.
um, yeah it had been a long afternoon running all over town. we barely had 10 minutes to get ready. but here is our annual family picture with Santa. maybe later I'll find the last few years and add them to compare. my kids are growing up. i can hardly believe it.
I got the kids the cheapy chocolate advent calendars.
they thought it was the BEST THING EVER! who knew that could be so delightful?they are dying to know when they can eat the next day's chocolate and they want to sneak and open all of the windows up so they can "just see" what that day's chocolate looks like.
We drove around looking at lights tonight for the first time this year. I love the perfect ones and the super tacky ones. there is just something extra delightful about super tacky displays. my fave is this house that had like 30 of those plastic figural things all over their roof. OH MY GOSH! you know they'd been collecting for years. we found it a few years ago and it's been my fave since. every year i worry they've moved or haven't done it. i'll let you know if it's up this year and maybe take pictures. it's pure holiday tackiness at it's best. What are your favorite kind of holiday light displays?
do you do advent calendars? what kind?

I LOVE advent calendars, I just forget every year.
Next year?!?
I haven't got the advent calendars this year...do you think the kids will mind if they have to open up 8 doors when I can finally go out and get them?
Very cute. We've never done advent calendars. I'm sure and certain that my kids would eat all the chocolates the first week. Cute picture, your kids are starting to look all grown up! Especially the three older....what are you going to do with them when they are teens?!
I always laugh at the houses that collect the big blow-up yard decorations. There is one house I've seen in previous years that had more than a WalMart display. I think they moved this past year though, so I can't drive by and laugh anymore.....my kids loved it, every time we passed we had to endure the questions of why we don't have any blow-up decor in our yard. :)
My kids like the advent calendars as well. Sometimes they sneak chocolates ahead of time and then trouble ensues. We are given two of these every year by neighbors, so I only have to get one more to make it complete.
I love the tacky houses too! Which gives me a SUPER-RAD idea: i think I will snap photos of the tacky houses as i see them, and then post the photos! Tacky Holiday Cheer! My favorite kind.
And I'm being serious.
My very, very favorite lights are the opaque colored ceramic ones, from my childhood years. I want to buy some for my own abode & will be ON THE PROWL for them on sale after Christmas.
Love you! Study hard these last few days of the semester!
haha, the picture of Pierce on Santa is hilarious! That would be a great one to enter into a contest!
The family picture with Santa turned out adorable too!
I love all light displays...we always go to Zoo lights and try to hit the Temple.
I love advent calendars we have a tree that you put an ornament on everyday!
Every year I say I'm going to do one of those really cute handmade advent calendars.
And every year I don't.
I did see a cute idea on a blog....she had a red and white striped cloth bag (like a Santa bag), and she had 25 little gifts & treats in it for her kids from the dollar store. Each day they get to reach in and pull something out without looking. Of course, with six kids that would get really expensive for you.
