a wonder for wednesday! complete with pictures!

Ok i have to share the hugest wonder of my day! but first the disclaimer- tonight I went to walmart and happened to have a vault energy drink around 10:30 so that is why i am a freak and up scrubbing my grout at 2:30 am. Oh and I am well aware my floor is gross, so no judging , i am sharing the best tip of the day I have.

a little background first about my floors, they are nasty! second- I used to have a maid come to my other house, and her crew would first dump hot water on the ground and scrub it around with a deck brush. I got mine at Home depot in the custodial aisle.
third I am mopping just in case anyone comes in my house tomorrow. My floors have been especially gross this week due to the fact, my husband, bought cherry soda in cans the other day, thus giving my children free reign on drinking and spilling said beverages.

Tonight I got out my handy stand up dustpan, my commercial mop bucket and wringer set and my fantastic deck brush. I begin mopping and noticed my results are hugely lacking! the top of our circa 1980s peach marshmallow topped tile looks relatively clean but the grout is a nasty dark scum color. what to do? what to do? I dump a little water on it , let it sit, and then with the handy scrubby part on the deck brush I scrub down the grout line and low and behold it is a light tan color. and it is pretty well the same color as under the couch or piano, places that rarely see the light of day, much less a spilled beverage. Holy cow this is the same grout as that! and with very little effort on my part, the grout is clean! and it matches! and you have to know I am a low effort kind of gal! if it makes me sweat, no thanks. If my arms will hurt afterward, forget it. but NO this is easier than the pre-mopping sweeping! I didn't actually do the whole floor, but i will another time, at a more reasonable time! since it is 3:30 and all! and was the hubby impressed? I got a "that's awesome" from him and He came to look two times while he was playing Lord of the rings online and involved in battle. so I think considering that. He was really impressed. what do you think?

picture explanations from top to bottom # 1-6

1-close up of the tan/clean area under the chair in front room
2- the deck brush!
3- close up of the scrubby part on the deck brush, it rotates, so the brush is flat or so it can scrub the grout.
4-the nasty dark scum colored grout (before)
5- see the clean grout line ? running up and down? proof this works? Hell yeah!
6-the floor after i scrubbed the crap out of it, nice light tan grout again! well as nice as this floor gets anyway. I can't wait until we have the budget to redo the the main floor flooring!

Awesome! I hate how dirty the grout can get, even when it's sealed. I refused to have tile in this kitchen for that reason. I use Clorox kitchen cleaner w/bleach, spray it evenly on my grout, sit for a minute, then wipe it up (making sure not to get close to carpets) and it really whitens the grout. Even on colored grouts. You just can't let it sit too long or it will bleach it out, and you have to make sure you get it all wiped up. We have tan colored grout in our bathrooms and laundry and it works wonders. It'd probably work great with that handy brush! And you are completely nuts to be cleaning the floor at that time of night!!

Hilarious! I guess I need an energy drink to get all I need to do in the next three days before my little guys get home! I hate tile just for that one reason--GROUT!!! I much prefer laminate wood or something--however I am currently living with ugly linolium floors from the 30's--YIKES! Someday I will have beautiful floors! don't you just love the things we actaully blog about--it's so fun! :)

Absolutely incredible. That's one cool cleaning product. I only clean that early in the morning when I am really ticked off at my hubby.
