so what do you do with all the candy? need ideas?
here are a couple ideas for the people that don't just eat it.
i personally tax each kid. and i take my share of the kind of candy i like from each bag. so a reses' here or a snickers there i get my fix and they get the rest. i took all the nerds out of everyone's bags and put them in the trick or treat hand out bucket. because i hate nerds candy! they are messy, because they always spill! they are not delicious, sour little lumps of sugar. and they are messy! yeah i hate the mess that they make. as a kid i didn't mind them but as a mom they are my least favorite candy. yeah totally my least fave candy ever! so i took them out of the bags and gave them away! the kids didn't even care. i think they figured less yelling from mom if they weren't around getting spilled.
Need another idea to get the candy out of your house?
- i got a flier again this year about the Robison orthodontics candy buyback fund raiser! you take the candy to their office. they weigh itm, and then pay you 2bucks a pound. then, they match it and donate the same amount to your school. and after it is over? they are donating it all to our servicemen overseas as a treat! win win for everyone. there office is at brown and greenfield in mesa , and they did it at the gilbert office last year too. FYI. that is at Higley and the Santan free way. need info?? call 480-888-7711 and ask for Patti the fund raising coordinator. and this is only for kids trick or treating candy. not un-opened bags you didn't get to hand out. this is on November 2nd for 7:30am to 5:00 pm. there is a 4 lb limit per kid present, and an 8lb limit per family.
- um my cousin Kimm lets her kid have all they want the first 24 hours. then they put the candy out before bedtime for the candy fairy. the candy fairy comes and trades a clearance toy for the candy. in the middle of the night. then she throws it away or doles it out as prizes for potty training and chores. for a long time.
- Some people hoard their candy in their room. saving it and savoring every piece over a super long period of time. this is Lance's way of doing it. he hoards it. but won't share. all those years of siblings rushing through their candy and he'd have it long after Christmas at least. and he'd hide it from them, but never share it either. he got peeved at me one year for eating his reses' Pb cups from his stocking candy a week after Christmas. he left it out staring at me. and mine was all gone. he was peeved ! that is when i found out his fine art of hoarding candy! not my speed. Liberty hoards. hers which bugs the freaking crap out of me. and it stingy with it. but i find it sometimes 6 months later! gross! i always end up chucking it in the trash she should just share it or eat it.
- my plan of attack with the sudden influx of candy? i let them have at it! they eat all they want. i tax what i want though and then it is a candy free for all until it is all gone. they share with eachother when someone is lacking. but for the most part it is ok. except the wrappers. i hate the wrappers but even that it ok for a day or two. i remind them to brush their teeth lots. and they are not effected by sugar at all. so that is a non issue for us. i mean really these kids get Dr. pepper with their happy meals like a little candy is gonna keep them up? be real. they have a high sugar tolerance.
do you hoard?
do you share?
do you sell it?
or does the candy fairy come?
any other great ideas?
come on share it in case anyone needs an idea!
and i need to know.... what is your fave candy?

I love how you give your kids Dr. Pepper with their happy meals. That is my middle sons stable drink. Which doesn't surprise me, I drank it throughout my whole pregnancy so it pretty much flows in his blood.
I'm not a big fan of all the candy that they get on Halloween but the kids love it. We also tax our kids and take our faves out. Then we let them have at it till bed time. After that it goes into a bag and I put it a piece in their lunch and then they get a piece for each good thing they do at home. It really does inspire them to be nicer and help.
This is a perfect post for the morning after Halloween! I was just thinking about what I was going to do with all of this candy. We have the candy the kids got, and a lot of candy left over. I am thinking I am going to fill my candy jars up! This way the visitors that stop by will eat it up too! Not just the familla! I LOVE the offer the dentist has made!!!
I loved looking at your Halloween pictures. So cute! Joy looks like she had such a fun filled day, and sleep was just wating.
My mom too used to tax our candy, most of the good chocolate was hers!! I plan on doing the same thing!! What an awesome mom to just let your kids have at it, why not- its once a year!! :0)
we are of the same mind about candy. i give them a time limit (4 days) and it all has to be gone or i'm dumping it. so they eat and eat and eat!! we just brush more and play outside more!
and i too take a candy tax. i take what i want then the rest belongs to them. works out well for us all!
i think it is a good idea to go to that ortho but i doubt i will make it out there. i am not big on candy. i have had 2 almond joys (snack size) and i am done. i threw away all of the gum and hard candy (aka jolly ranchers) because of caleb the rest they can have. their teeth are rotting out of their head anyway.
ps: love pierce's dumbo costume! everyone looks adorable!
Thanks for all the good ideas! I can't believe you got 6 kids all dressed up!!! I can barely get two ready. You have an amazing family. Everyone looks so cute!
I have a hoarder in my house too! Mike and I will eat the kiddos candy once they are in bed-hee hee we are so mean! Kelsey wants to sell hers and Cody is not sure. I take the extra and jar vac it! You gotta have chocolate in the year supply!
We dump all ours together and commense to eating. While the kids are in school I throw away the yucky candy (I'm with you on the Nerds - nothing like hearing them hit the hardwood floor, one at a time). I also stash away things like lollipops and smarties for a pinata filler. We've got a birthday the first of December and it's free fill.
Yeah I am the one who get's away with all the chocolate in our bags! I got that from my mother I think...she used to do the same.
Your kids all look great! Yeah Halloween definitely takes it out of you! So Im guessing that little rant was directed towards me about the dark houses... :) I do agree with the theory but I would rather it be a family thing...rather than leave my husband to pass out candy. That's just me though...That was nice of your mom to pass it out at your house! Still a little wierded out that you used to live a few houses down from my aunt...all the many times we were there and I didn't know you then...it's just kind of funny!
Yay, for it all being OVER!!
i love mary jane's! and my kids only got 1!! boo
really chocolate is what i go for. and the darker the better.
I can't even keep up with all your blogging. I am so lame that I forgot to take even 1 picture yesterday! Actually not lame, just too freaking busy. I sewed a poodle skirt from 3-5pm, while feeding people, setting up for partying, and trying to keep the babies happy - CRaZy!!!
I take some chocolate from everyone, and let them have all the rest - Do whatever you want with it, but if I see it it's mine, and keep it off my floor or it's in the trash!!
My favorite: Snickers, however if I'm shopping at Circle K, I love a BIG CHERRY! Yum!
Ben & I take chocolate out of their buckets, but most of them are willing to share, esp Nathaniel. He is sooo sweet about sharing w/ us. We used to let them have tons of candy that night, then take them away & only let them pick like 4 pieces after dinner each day til it was gone. Which doesn't take that long w/ us stealing it. ha ha. But the last couple years we just let them have it, some days if that's all they'll eat then we have to limit it, but the sooner it's gone the better. Some of them eat it faster than the others so then they start to fight over who has more. Gimme a break. ha ha.
Have to say I LOVE nerds, i steal them from their buckets. I always loved them. I'm a huge candy/sugar/chocolate fan! Always have been always will be. LOL :) I don't like the lollipops or bubble gum & cannot stand the wrappers!!! That's partially what makes us take the candy away for a while, too. If they can't clean up after themselves, then they don't get it that day.
I am with you- let them eat it and be done with it! I do make them share with me though. The older kids know my favorites and willing give me stuff from their stash.
Oh, and I love Snickers, Peanut M&Ms, Kit Kats, and Reces PB cups- YUM!
I'm with you. Since I have no self conrol or will power it's difficult to enforce that sort of thing with the kids. Have at it!, I say, and get it over with. And then wait for Christmas candy to start rolling in...
I just noticed my name changed. That. Is. So. RADDDD! Crazy, you're awesomely rad now!
I love what Raea's orthodontist is doing, but I won't participate. I want the candy.
Growing up, my mom let us be responsible for our own candy. If you ate too much, too bad.
My husband hates sugar in the house, so we will eat some, and he takes the rest to work.
We tax our kids, too. BUT we only let them choose 5 pieces each, then Daddy takes the rest to work for the guys. The guys love Halloween and Easter!
I did not start a private blog without you. My blog has been stolen! I did start a new blog until I can get this straightened out it's hotmamashouse at blogspot dot com. Come by and see me. And yeah, you'll see this exact message on all my blogfriends comments. BTW, don't email me, my email has been compromised too so I'll be getting a new one in the next day or two. Sorry about the hassle.
I'm not a big candy eater, so I don't really want much, and the boys don't like what I like, so that's easy for me to get what I want out of their bags. My boys kind of forget about their candy after a day or two. Then we use it for the movies, and some ends up in the trash after sitting in the pantry for months!! Mine used to sit under my bed for 6-9 months when I was little. Not because I hoarded it, but because I wasn't a big eater of it. That's a great idea the ortho dr. has, but I wonder if he realizes you can't send the chocolate? Maybe the chocolate would be the thing that people would keep for themselves though.
growing up i hoarded. now i take all the candy & it sits in the kitchen somewhere until I get tired of looking at it and gets thrown away. I probably use it here & there for bribes, etc. last night i packed a bunch to take to the ER incase i got desperate.
we totaly sold it last year!! It was the best. My kids were so happy. I now have a bunch of candy I don't like but....a bunch of kids in the hood that I can had it out to over the next few weeks!!! I'll be the cool mom and get rid of the gross candy. You guys all looked so cute. I Cassidy and you had matching hats. Love dumbo, I think he's my fav!
