my low iodine diet fun. day one.
In prep for my thyrogen induced Whole body scan. for my thyroid cancer follow up. it is normally for 2 weeks. but i started late. they suggest 2 weeks because then you figure out what the heck you are doing. and then do a strict on the 2nd week because you know what you are doing by then. RAD. BUT since i am late starting i have to do a strict one for one whole week. and hope it does the job. awesome!
OH yeah! fabulous!
so today i had a birthday lunch planned with a couple friends. i went to barro's(my fave pizza place)
and sat and drank a coke.
it is ok on the list.
and then ate a Lara bar. ok on the list too. i could only eat a third of it. it was semi nasty.
let me tell you what the wrapper lists as excellent qualities.
apple pie Lara bar-the original fruit and nut food bar.
redeeming qualities? (and the reason i am eating this crap instead of my beloved pizza?)
no added sugar
unprocessed
raw
non GMO (whatever that is? here i figured it out with the help of Google. here on wiki)
gluten free
dairy free
soy free
vegan
Kosher
ingredients
dates,almonds,unsweetened apples,walnuts,raisins,cinnamon.
yum! you know you want some right?
and eww dates.
i guess that is where the fiber comes in.
jealous?
then i had for an afternoon snack?( since i was still hungry after only eat part of the apple pie bar. )
a Bora Bora bar.
it tasted great when i sampled it at costco.
but on attempting to eat a whole one. was pretty nasty too.
it had all natural stuff too.
non GMO
gluten free
no preservatives
certified organic
certified vegan and some other crap
ingrediants?
rolled oats, raisins, agave syrup, peanuts, apples, almonds, ricecyrup, crisp brown rice , cinnamon
it wasn't that bad. but totally not delicious!
i am now eating some fresh pineapple. which is pretty darn fabulous.
the limits of this rad diet for a non dieter?
no dairy
no soy
no red dye number 3
no chocolate becuase of the dairy-i could have some dark chocolate but really not a fan
no dough conditioners
no iodized salt or sea salt. and since you don't know what kind of salt is in stuff, i can't eat it.
no packaged food or processed foods.
oh and no sea food or anything with sea weed. which is fine with me. i don't eat that anyway. since anything from the ocean contains iodine.
and other rad stuff. that i forget about. but i don't think apply to my normal everyday eating limits.
**i can have regular not iodized salt.
and bread IF i bake it myself or find the right brand that has not iodized salt.
but this means to me.
NO pizza out.
no salad dressing unless i make it myself or find salt free kind.
NO Dr. PEPPER!
no processed foods! hello, that is all i eat.
no pizza
none of the marie calendars pie in the fridge,
i actually have to cook or prepare ahead of time
i need to go study the low iodine cookbook. the explanation of it is excellent on page 8 of the PDF link. i'd copy and paste but it won't let me. darn.
this is something i should have been prepping for. for weeks or months ahead just to make it easy but i didn't . so here i am eating crappy low iodine approved bars. fresh fruit and veggies that i love but with no butter.
i think i need to spend some quality time at the health food store. reading labels. tonight i think i will be eating homemade pico de gallo by the spoonful. unless i can find some tortilla chips with no salt. there is a recipe lucky me! i can always make my own. fabulous!
are you jealous.
i wonder what lance will be cooking for dinner?
i think i am not going there for the rest of the week i am on the diet. i need a nap. rad
and i have 2 more lunches this week. minor torture. no more see's candy for me until next Friday.
and no eating out. i will go out. but not eat. but i'm there for the company. not the food usually anyway.
i have studied part of the cook book. i'll have Lance cook some of it. and otherwise.
i'll do without. it is only a week. a really strict week. but it isn't an unhealthy way to eat just inconvenient.
and it is worth it. i think. so far it is totally worth it.
wish me luck!

Good luck!!! It IS worth it, but I get ya on that it sucks in the meantime. No dp? Ugh, but you can have coke, so that is good. Send me a recipe that I can make for you and bring on Friday, I totally will!!
YUm! Okay just kidding! Your diet sounds like a drag! But Yoiu seem to be in good spirits as usual about it! So good deal! Good luck!
Good luck! It will be worth it. You can do it. Easy for me to say, huh. And so nice of Jenny to offer to gring you a special lunch Friday. She rocks! Hang in there.
Okay, remind me why?!? And why only a week? I am a little confused. I understand why people have different diet regimines because I, myself have one. All in all, GOOD LUCK!! I don't think I would pass with this diet. GOOD LUCK!!
No DR. PEPPER?! Crap! That would put me right over the edge. I'm sorry. So, so sorry! I'm glad it's only for a week. Good luck to you. At least the fresh fruit and veggies are a plus....taste good, good for you....
I would starve to death. And the headache from no Dr. Pepper! Hope you can take ibuprofen.
Wow! I'll bake you some bread w/out iodized salt! :) Not to much too choose from is there...
Luck! I've got fingers and toes crossed. That is the hardest diet I have ever heard of.
seriously that sounds so hard! i know you can do it though. i am glad you are still gonna come to lunch even though you can't eat ;)
When you list out the ingredients for those bars they SOUND good. I wonder how they mess all the good up so they don't taste good anymore. I guess they just need more processing! :)
LUCK!
It is worth it. But...
EWWWWW!
Sorry! At least it's only a week, right?
wow...this will be worth it. focus on that...
Oh my, that sounds intense! Just keep reminding yourself that it is only for a few days! Good luck girl - I'll be thinking of you!
NO thank you to this crazy food regimen you get to follow but I sure hope it helps you get the best results and some peace of mind!!
That sucks! I feel for you....I do need to eat healthier, but seriously....I LOVE all that processed food! Good luck!
It will be worth the hassle to feel like you can trust the results of the testing!
