my movie review of The Other Boleyn Girl

i had not read the book or heard much about it so i was pleased with the movie. yes some of it was mystifying that they actually did things like that in history. AND the plotting and backstabbing was appalling. but realistic. I thought it was played well by both Scarlet Johanson. and Natalie Portman.
Jenny said the time span was way off from the book , the movie make like 14 years seem like 2 years max. and some stuff didn't really follow very close to the book either.

but i did find it enjoyable. and I'm now dying to read the book because i hear it goes into so much more detail. in all the right ways (wink, wink) and yeah i like that.

if you haven't read the book yet, don't do it before you see the movie. and you'll be pleasantly surprised. and if you have read the book be prepared it doesn't go into as much detail (obviously) and the whole movie time elapsed thing could be considered irritating.
also it ends pretty much with the life of the main Boleyn Girl. which leaves out alot of historically interesting facts.

um yeah some people may be offended by the morals portrayed in the movie. and if you are prudish you may not want to go. but remember it's based of the book that is based off of the history of England. So. digging it that way.

the costuming was pretty great. i really wasn't a fan of the hats they wore in court. but whatever i'm sure someone researched that. OH and the shoulder pads on Henry? NICE! hugemongous topple over kind of shoulder pads. again mocking something that may have been a knock off of the era.

i give it 2 thumbs up. and yeah not a movie my husband would love.

OH but the previews?
YEEHAW had one for Mama Mia! yay! can't wait for that! love love love it! yay. and playing in that?
COLIN FIRTH!(swoon,so dreamy)
and Pierce Brosnan.
and Meryl Streep.
and an assortment of other people . yeah i love Colin Firth, i'd see it just for him. FOR REAL!

yeah. yay!

and fun night it was me and the Fave girls. and we hit PF Chang's after the movie. way fun.
chatted about books over dinner. I've got quite the list I'm wanting to read now.

great GNO!

today?
i took my mom to have surgery. i'm not saying what here. but ask me in person and i'll tell ya.
OH and while she was in pre-op the nurse wouldn't let me sit back there. i had to go wait in surgical waiting area. it was 5am. and i'm sitting there alone. and there was already a grungy looking guy in there. the room smelled like B.O. and i sit in my corner and start reading my book. and i swear i heard kissing sounds coming from this guy. you know full on smmmmmmch! yeah EWW! so i sit there ignoring it for a good 45 minutes the whole time with a creepy feeling about this guy, making smooching sounds. directed toward me. he was grungy. and creepy. and i felt less than safe. and every time security would walk by he'd kinda hang back where he conveniently couldn't be seen. UM creepy behavior. so after less time than the nurse wanted me to sit out there waiting. i went back and sat with my mom early. and felt better about that. seriously creepy, grungy guy. she had to be there at 5am. I'd gone to bed at 2am and she came at 4:45 to pick me up rad. surgery went fine. and she was resting by the time i left. Janie and vicki, my older sisters came about the time my mom was going back to surgery at 7am. so we hung out, laughed ,and had fun together. They also crocheted. while i read a little. i got a dish rag from janie. i was pretty stoked it was just my colors , pink, pink and white with some lavender.

The BO guy would have freaked me out a bit, too.

Glad your mom's surgery went alright!

I've been really excited to see that movie because I love that time period (former History/English teacher) & I love those 2 actresses.

Glad the surgery went well. My grandma is in the hospital all last week & this week too, recovering from a big ol' surgery--so I know how hard it is to do that whole scene. Glad your mom's ok. Is she coming home anytime soon?

I didn't hate the movie but did not love it either. It was so different from the book which was okay except the historical facts were off because of it. The movie was a lot darker than the book. I love the two actresses so that helped me a lot.

Read the book!

Well wishes to your mother. Glad you had a great GNO!

Glad your mom is doing well. Surgery, no matter what it is, is scary and risky.
Interesting movie. You are always so good about keeping up on the current films.
Hope you have a relaxing weekend!

I've heard the movie strays from the book somewhat.......I always like the movie better if I haven't read the book........

i saw the movie this weekend! i really liked it. though historically, it wasn't entirely accurate (and that is only annoying because people who see it will think it is). having lived in london and studying the generations who moved on and off the throne, THAT part was totally accurate. junk went down with england's history and the throne. anyway.... good to see..
