i need summer fun ideas.HELP PLEASE

i'm a genius and spoke up in the enrichment board meeting the other week. genius= retard
and now i am in charge of compiling a list of excellent summer fun ideas. free, cheap and anything else. obviously NOT DREAM VACATION STUFF, since that is not happening for me anytime soon.
but i need all the help i can get.

SO share what fun things you do in the summer. ESPECIALLY if you live IN AZ. but other places too.
name names people, or email me.
the fun parks with splash pads, and super cool pools.
fun ,museums. and play lands.
specials you hear about on cheap days at the museum or amusement places.
fun craft ideas
theme weeks
kid swaps,
who's doing drop off babysitting ? if you live by me.
summer camps and day camps
summer dance classes?
basketball camps.

i'f i haven't posted about it. email me(dude, sidebar). there are tons of movie options, and i'll list those too, free ones.

and i'll get the stuff put together.

ok so to be on the safe side don't post any camps or classes in the comments -email me with those please. and details. if you have them. or links.

but comment here if you have free activities
or cheap craft ideas

and post it.

thanks for the help. and i think we will all benefit from the fun ideas everyone has.

and the contest? click on the mega blinky at the top that says contest. it will take you to the right post.

and feel free to comment even if you never have before. OH and i'll let anonymous comments for a while in case anyone that doesn't blog, wants to come out of the closet, and give an idea or two just sign your name please and thank you.

This works great if you want to work in the yard or just sit outside and read a magazine. I give my kids a paintbrush and a bucket of water. Then I tell them to paint the cement. No mess and the water dries up so they can paint in that same spot again. Its a hit everytime. Cheap and entertaining, who could ask for more!?

This is the first summer where I am really nervous about what to do with the kids since I got used to only having 2 kids, and for the summer I will have 4 freaking kids!

There is a summer school for my oldest. Then, I love the Tempe Town Lakes free splash zone; that's cool. I also use my zoo membership just for the leaping lagoon (my kids are still small).

Don't forget that Memorial Day weekend the city of mesa is selling half-off family summer swim passes to the Junior High pools (save over $95). Stapley is almost as good as Golf'n Splash, without the cost. Kids are only $1.50 regular price, while adults are $3.

Julie,
I BIG L LOVE your blog. I consider myself more a stalker than a lurker since I check you blog mulitple times a day and tell everyone about it. My life pretty much sucks right now but I find strength in your passion and honesty. I love the things you feature...I have ordered from Moonvine and Purse Pals. Keep it up!

We just did this at Jake's school.

Here is a list of some of the weekly summer themes:

Growing Vegetable Soup-starting plants form seedlings, nurturing, watering the plants, watching them grow and in the end of summer making veggie soup.

A Bug's Life- highlighting specific bugs, what they eat, where they live, making crafts

Mother Goose day
Make a book day
Backwards day
Tiara/Crown day
Pajama day
Making homemade icecream
Lemonade stand
Decorate your own towel (for beach, waterpark, pool)
Pressed flower art
Bubble blast with blowing bubbles

Let's go camping-making trail mix, flashlight tag, bird feeders, camp side stories

E-I-E-I-O farm day-corn cob paintings, haystack snacks, thumbprint animals

Hooray, for the USA- highlighting each state each week:highlighting specific places, foods, animal life, historic landmarks

That's all I got, or can remember! Hope it helps.

Tanja did have some fun ideas! There was a reason why we dropped this idea from our HFPE. I have no ideas! We swim, go to movies, and try to go on a vacation, and that's it!

In the past Flylady has posted about a Kids Camp idea to motivate your kids to set goals, keep to a schedule, and help around the house. Go check it out at flylady.net

With baby #3 here any day I signed Weston up for kidtastic at MacArthur and swimming lessons. I don't need the neighborhood kids at my house. A trip to cali is in the works also, but I don't know if that will happen. Find friends that have pools and go swimming. It's free and you have a great time.

One other thing I just thought of that supercoolmom made me think of. I do a point system in the summer that helps wonderfully. If you want the form that I use I can email it to you. It is already in my comp. It keeps the children busy when they say "I'm bored". And earning instant gratification prizes is great. I know you love that Julie - instant gratification. ;)

We have a schedule for each day. We will be doing chores each day to help mom and keep up on the house!!
We "play school"...Each day (or couple of days) we have a letter that we center our day around. We watch a movie that has to do with that letter, the little ones practice writing that letter, and Sweet G practices it in cursive. We eat things that start with that letter and try to bake or make something too.
Our outings try to revolve around the letter~ it's all about themes here.
Also...by the end of the summer we will have a "letter book" of the things we have done.
Trying to be more creative and keep the kids from the tv too much.
I can't wait to read all the ideas that you have!!
