what is it about corn worms? and a giveaway heads up and random other things.

corn worm! CORN WORM! COOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRNNNNNNN WOOOOOORRRRRRRMMMMMMM! I WAAANNNNNNT A CORRRRRRRRNNNNNN WOOOORR-RRMM-MM! my 6 year old wailed.

someone is highly disappointed she didn't find a corn worm today.

i mentioned having corn on the cob on Thursday. well the wonder of having corn fresh from the farm IS the chance of finding a corn worm. Liberty found one that day and now considers herself the expert in corn worm finding strategy.

we have managed to keep Corny the corn worm alive and happy for the past 2 days. but today we ran out of food supply for Corny.

just in time to go pick up the requested corn for Fathers day dinner. we headed to the corn field on Center and Brown. and obtained 4 dozen ears of fresh corn, so we can roast corn on the grill for dinner at the inlaws.

we purchased the corn and the nice boy carried out 2 dozen for me since 4 is alot to carry. the kids had to show him "Corny" where he was sufficiently impressed.
i broke off a piece of delicious corn for corny, "it's like mt. everest for him!"
and we headed home with Kids begging to have corn for lunch,just to harvest more worms . i sat down with the garbage can to shuck it, and instantly they flocked to get in on the corn shucking/worm harvesting action. the first one Paxton picked up, he hit the jackpot, and found a fabulously large corn worm. instantly they all started thinking this was the one. THIS ONE HAS A WORM. i'm going to name it ... and if i find another one i'm going to give it to... and soon we'd run out of the dozen ears i was shucking for lunch, and then the begging commenced. "just one more mom, i know THIS one will have a worm." please MOM! i think they did 1 and a half dozen ears. and only the one worm , there were a couple with evidence of past worms, but no such luck. i swear, it was a glimpse of what my kids would be like if they were gamblers, thinking always just one more time and they'd hit the jackpot.

Joy was the most disappointed, wailing about not finding a worm to call her own. she's not really satisfied, that maybe tomorrow she'll find one.

in other news-

thrifty ice cream can be found at some water and Ice stores. i bought a hand packed quart at the water and ice on Horne and Brown yesterday for less than 5 bucks. worth it! and i even got info on procing for a 3 gallon container. HELLO FABULOUS! maybe for a party!
