I'm finally free to read something else! a mini Book report on Battlefield Earth.
I am finished with Battlefield Earth! as of 9:54 pm 8/27/08
I HATE to admit i liked it. it was good. Parts were slow going. i hated certain characters. but in the end i ENJOYED IT! gasp! the HORROR! I actually liked the book my husband essentially forced me to read.
of course he is THRILLED! and can't wait to read it again so we can discuss more. but holy heck! that sucker should have been a 3 book series. it was long and followed a lot of story lines, and took FOREVER to get to the nitty gritty details of the situation. sheesh! it was overly political (when i generally like to read fluffy/feel good books) It went into lots of detail with warfare and some economics of hypothetical galaxies. The technical aspects of it were pretty freaking amazing considering when it was written/published. it's still amazing. i liked it.
I officially was sucked in around 600+ pages in. and it took me WEEKS to read it. and yeah i avoided reading and actually cleaned and crafted and blogged more than i had been before starting it. BUT i finished.
yay me!
so all the books i'd been waiting to read and dying to finish this, so i could move onto something more exciting? yeah, i can't recall what i was wanting to read, or where i put them.
but in other book news. i got a bunch of parenting books at SAVERS on Monday! along with some kid books and Harry Potter #6. (i'm sure we have it somewhere but i have no clue what box it's in. ) for $2.99 THE PRICE WAS RIGHT! and now Peyton has his own copy.
i have a thing for books. the scholastic book orders thrill me! i always get sucked into buying books! for me, for Lance, for our Kids. we hoard books. it's pathetic really. i always told Lance he couldn't display all of his sci fi books because they were ugly and cheap paperbacks (he has thousands of books) and yet lately i think ,sure, stock the shelves in the basement with them books are RAD! make them easy to get to. lets enjoy them. so someday it might be one ugly looking collection lacking style and fabulous decorations but it will be fun to find a book and share it or settle in and enjoy it.
and i always think that by our example, our kids will have a love of reading. Knowing that we find enjoyment and entertainment in reading I hope they will too someday!

Well, I may just have to try that. Bronson says it's one of his faves! I picked up another hardback copy of New Moon at the Library book sale yesterday for $3! Always nice to have an extra to loan :)
i am sooo impressed you finished! i would have told my hubby i just didn't like it and put it down. what a good wife you are!!
i too drool over scholastic. love love love to get books and at those prices who can resist!!
Books are a good thing!
I love to read! I seriously thought I was the only one who got excited by the Scholastic book orders...I swear, I always over buy for Hope!
Happy reading!
Way to go for reading a 600 page book you really weren't interested in....all for your honey!
I love, love reading too! I am a escapist in life, and books are my portal out of here ya know?
Life is hard, I'll go read a book!
Books are rad! I have tried to get my kids into reading also. My two older girls love reading. My teenage son? Not so much!
That was soooooo great of you to read that book at your hubby's request. I always am making T-Daddy read books. He has a specific genre he loves to read. He isn't much into discussing his books. Me, on the other hand? I like to read a wide variety and want to discuss every book and blog entry with him. He is so nice and goes along with the books and humors me on the occasional blog post from time to time.
Way to finish! I bet you feel better! I always have to finish the book I am reading, no matter what.
I got our first book order yesterday! Yay!!!!! Love book orders!
YOu are a great mom, I suck, I hate to read, read, read, my kids only see me reading the scriptures, ensign , liahona. So at least they will have a love for those I hope, but my kids love to read. so hopefully, they won't turn out wrong;)
Congrats on finishing the book! Two weeks isn't too bad considering you weren't itching to read it in the first place. If I ever get through Einstein it'll be a miracle. I love the biographical parts of it, but the physics parts are frying my puny brain! :o)
Hooray! You finished! I LOVE to read. I want to start again, but I don't know where. Any ideas?
I'm like you, I like fluffy books. The last book I read was Angry Housewives Eating BonBons. I finished it the bay before I went into labor.
I, too, love buying books for my kid. Although they are 3 pages long and have HUGE simple words in them, I still love it.
i love having a book shelf! way to go on finishing. what are you gonna read next?
surprised you liked it. took a while for you to get into. i haven't read that, but wasn't there a movie with that title? with john travolta & kelly preston? i may be way off, but i dunno.
anyway, good job on finishing the book & actually liking it!
