In your non expert, medical opinion...aka in your experience as a mom?
you can see it best under his arm, and some on his belly and back .
none in the diaper area though . mostly body, and arms and legs.
OK . question for you.
first off, i am rad.
this is why...
Pierce got shots last week. i have NO CLUE which ones. and today he is cruising a rash on his body, and a couple on his arms and legs.
reddish, raised. not weepy or watery blisters. but apparently itchy since he had scratched at some point either last night or this morning.
so what do you think? reaction to his vaccinations? if i knew exactly which ones he got i could attribute the rash to one or the other. I'm waiting for a call back from the Peds office to find out which he got. and this is the one time i didn't bother to remember to bring his shot record with me. OY!
so i'm thinking measles. or chicken pox vaccine. but leaning towards measles.
i'm waiting in a call back from the dr. office.
anyone have an opinion? did your kids ever get a rash in reaction to vaccinations?
and yeah i vaccinate my kids. i'm not arguing the risks or whatnot, or over the top fears about autism.
i'm just saying my kid got a random rash 7 days after a vaccine.
i'm thinking Liberty got chicken pox after her vaccine back in the day but i'm not 100% on that. my poor mom brain is forgetful.
and i'm also going to say. if i had more babies , I'd vaccinate them too. i figure the benefits outweigh the risk. my uncle had Polio, it wasn't fun.

In my expert opinion its from the MMR shot...But I am not an expert, just an experts daughter. Doest that count?
Anyway I hope you figure it out and he feels better soon!!
Kindyl had a rash like that, maybe not as bad. I took her to a family friend who is a doctor (it was after hours)and he said it was juat a super mild case of chicken pox. (she had been vaccinated) Unfortunately she happens to be my child that doesn't complain, so I don't know if she had a fever first or not. It cleared up on it's own, and she only missed one day of school. This can happen in a fully vaccinated community. Just really mild cases of chicken pox. Give me that any day over full blown chicken pox! Super fast recovery, and no scars.
I stand by my diagnosis of Varicella. Looks chicken pocky to me, and they don't usually look blistery (at least to me) the very first day.
I would guess the MMR, Hope had the same thing...they called it a slight case of the measles from her MMR.
Yeah, nice, huh?
Hope your little guy feels better soon!
Awww, poor guy. As if getting shots wasn't bad enough, now he has an itchy rash. I have no idea which vaccines cause rashes. I am sure the pediatrician will tell you. I hope he feels better soon!
BOK BOK BOK - Looks like chicken pox to me! It looks like one of the spots on his stomach is scabbed a bit - is it? That would make it almost definite.
Keep us updated!
I can't imagine it being chicken pox, only because it takes 10 days to incubate before they show up. Could just be a rashy reaction, like hives or something? I'm sure you will let us know when you find out what it is. Good luck. Hope he's not too uncomfortable.
now that i just blew up the pic, it doesn't look like hives. seems really fast for measles or chicken pox to show up after it only being 7 days. you've got me really curious...
Seven days is a little early for a vaccine reaction for chicken pox....when I took my daughter in for a rash it was 14 days out and they told me it usually happens around day 21 after vaccine, but she's an overachiever and did it early! So maybe he's a super overachiever! Also, of my 2 kids that had a rash reaction to the the chicken pox vaccine, it was pretty severe around the injection site....how does his look? Does he have a fever with it? Has benadryl done anything for it? My kids didn't have a reaction to MMR, so I have no expert advice for that!
Oh, and thank you for doing vaccinations.....makes it so nice for all of us that want healthy kids! :) Curiosity question though....what do you think about the new vaccine for girls....can't think of the name right now.....the one for cervical cancer. I'm still on the fence about that one.
looks like the chicken pox to me.
poor kiddo!
i am 100% with ya on vaccinating.
It looks like hives to me, I had them once and they sucked. I wouldn't think it could be chicken pocks because it's not a live virus they give you. Whatever it is I hope he gets better soon, there is nothing worse than itching all over your body and not being able to make it go away.
I too vaccinate, firm believer in it, and for those of you who are not, call some third world country sometime and ask what their child and infant mortality rate is because of these diseases-there, did I just open a can of worms-.
Megan got the chicken pox shot about a month ago. She broke out in a rash from it and it didn't last too long. SHe said it was itchy, but she wasn't sick or anything. Good luck!
I have no idea but I hope he feels better soon!
I'm all for vaccinations but I'm funny about getting more then 2 at a time. I'm sure it's nothing but I hate having them get more then that at one time!
I can't wait to hear what he has.
Larissa got the chicken pox vaccine and got a mild cause (kinda normal). Anyway, she spread it to the other kids who got a full blown case of the pox!
Probably from the vaccine. Maybe from heat. Is it associated with a fever?
Any updates???
OH MY GOODNESS- MY 10 YEAR HAS IT TOO, I don't think maybe hives from the shots, but maybe hives from something else. Hers are not as bad, but they do itch, and it was a random thing, she got them about a month ago to. I bet it is the same thing, and if you scratch anything, there going to scap, not chicken pox, I have seen way too many for that one, but I am not a doctor, just a mother of 7.
I will just say it looks yucky and then tell you that I will be happy to let you borrow my monkey dress to wear to your hubby's reunion!
Hallie
oy..no fun. i hope it is just a rash.
i definitely agree with vaccinating. my hubbies' dad had polio and the effects are not so great.
One of my kiddos had a reaction to the chicken pox one and they actually get chicken pox,but non contagious. Have you heard from the doc yet? Let us know. Poor guy.
chickity china, the chinese chicken (pox)
Oh, poor guy! Just looking at the pictures made me itchy.
I hope you can find out what it is soon!
Poor guy!!!!! Whatever it is I would get some Calamin lotion on it. That will help with the itch. As will an anti-histamine.
I googled it and found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chickenpox
My kids have had chicken pox (as I do not vaccinate my children) and that is what it looks like to me, but the pictures came up a little blurry. Chicken pox has a 10-21 day incubation period. So it COULD be from the vaccine or he could have been exposed and you did not know it. And it is VERY possible to be from the vaccine even though it is not a live virus. All you can really do is keep him comfortable and at home.
Good luck! I had 3 kids with it at once. The week b4 Michael and I took our first trip by ourselves! Thank goodness for moms!!
call your dr.
But I'd say chicken pox
If he had an MMR, I would guess it was from that. My oldest had a rash from it plus a large lump in his leg by the injection site (that could have been from the person giving the shot however, she was kinda mean about it). I don't remember if it was itchy though. I'm just full of useless information, aren't I?
Hopefully its not chicken pox, that would just suck! Keep us informed!
PS I totally agree with you about getting immunized. Worked for a peditrician for too long not to!
I am totally clueless when it comes to rashes and such...so I'm no help there.
I get my kids immunized. I'm behind on Gigantor's...guess I better get to that!!
:)
Poor fella. Let us all know what it was when you figure it out!!
This is one time I will not let my big mouth get me in trouble. (I tend to state my opionions very strongly) I'll just state that I vaccinate and let it rest at that.
I wouldn't know what shot he's reacting to, because my kids never got a rash, but just remember that the vaccination is actually a dose of the bug itself--so it probably is a mild case of one of the shots. You know how they get fevers in reaction to the shots. So this is just that same thing...
I'm with Crystal on the rash thing. She's probaly right.
I also put you in my google reader - yipee!
Thanks for clueing me into that Ü
