Our Annual Easter picnic

Saturday we went to the Annual Christensen Easter Picnic.

my mom organizes it every year at a park and we have a fabulous time seeing siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins and even 3rd cousins. there was a smaller than usual turn out with only 130 people. but it was super delightful as always.

my kids looked like this.

after a potluck lunch we have a candy scramble (those that read this blog year after year know all about it already).

instead of an egg hunt, we just scatter candy in the field at the park. it's as scientific and strategically placed as opening bags and flinging candy all over, throwing it, dropping it as they walk .

this year the grass was mown down and it just felt dirty. there was a bunch of weed seeds that stuck to everyone that touched them. Patriots jeans were covered in them.

before the candy scramble, we line them up in age order and let them go out in heats. to make it fair for the little kids and give them a minute to get some before the bigger faster kids grab all the candy. (i wish everyone did this with all egg hunts).

the hubs had Patriot with the under 2 crowd
Pierce was with 5 and 6 yr olds.
Hope was with the 7&8 group.
Joy was with the 9-10 yr olds
and the 11 and up group.
I'm pretty sure this was Peyton's last year.

This was the baby's first year participating. they always get a couple and then want to sit and eat their lollipop or whatever they find. we have to coax them to keep going. (see him crying when Liberty was helping him?!)

Joy and Hope Know how it works.
Paxton
Liberty didn't really hunt for herself , she helped out with the baby and did a little ,
she wasn't up for the running and chaos with her gimpy toe after last weeks accident.

He might think he's too cool for mom to take pictures, but he's not too cool to race for candy on the ground.

Pierce showing me his loot.
Chilling with Grandma Jones. she's his favorite.

Hope was resting after the candy scramble.
they sit and trade candy or just inspect it and eat it.
Pierce was hot and thirsty. it was in the 90's on Saturday.
We all went home hot and dirty. the kids had a fabulous time.
