a perfect example of early detection and prevention
I got my colonoscopy pathology results back unexpectedly this afternoon. (sigh of relief) along with my liver biopsy results.
While i don't love being the poster child for early detection, The polyps found last week during my colonoscopy apparently ARE the kind that turn into cancer eventually, but they weren't cancerous yet. WHOOHOOO!
of course the Dr. Pointed out that yes they could have potentially turned into cancer in the next ten years and of course having a routine colonoscopy isn't suggested until you are 50. (I'm 32)
so by going by those suggestions it was totally possible that if i waited on this and ignored the symptoms, that i would have big problems by the time i went in. IF I WENT IN.
which makes me a perfect example of early detection and prevention.
considering the alternative the horrifying prep and less than fabulous sedation were worth it.
next time apparently I'll get general anesthesia. next time will be in 3 years unless i have symptoms again before that.
Oh and all of the biopsies they do throughout the test came back negative. no Crohn's disease, no ulcerative colitis, nothing alarming, inconvenient or dangerous. WHEW!
the liver biopsy results came back pretty well. no cancer. minimal damage so far. it was fatty infiltration of the liver classified as stage 1 . cirrhosis is considered stage 4. she ordered some more blood work. but otherwise it was great news.
The Pancreatitis is still cause unknown. no real explanation. and i have a few more weeks of recovery ahead of me. She gave some more pain meds to deal with the pain. and more idea of what i'm supposed to be eating and not eating. bland foods. B.R.A.T. diet. low fat. etc. AWESOME!did i mention the pain meds?
i go back in 3 weeks to see if everything is resolved. and i have some more blood-work to have done in the mean time.
i know . you are so jealous . yes there was a bright-side to the visit. i don't have cancer.
the tests were worth it even though they sucked. onward and upward. lesson learned.
get your stuff checked out.
EARLY DETECTION is a RAD IDEA!
here are the Symptoms and risk factors for Colon cancer.
Side note-I was more aware of the symptoms and risks due to my friend's husband who recently passed away due to complications from colon cancer. if you want to read about him i linked to my post about him here and updated it at the bottom with a link to the obituary.
